Ouch!!!

An employee of JAS Airport Services, the ground handlers for TransNusa. Fell from A320 aircraft door onto the tarmac in Indonesia.

The worker who is assumed to be the flight dispatcher/ turnaround coordinator was stepping out of the aircraft when the accident took place. It seems that there has been a communication error between the air stairs operators and dispatcher.

It was also reported that the employee that fell did not suffer any serious injuries.

What usually happens at this phase of the flight?

After all the passengers, bags, and freight have been loaded, the flight dispatcher comes in and confirms with the Captain & Purser, that all passengers and freight, are loaded, all underwing doors are shut, and hands the paper loadsheet, flight manifest, then steps out of the aircraft and exchanges pleasantries with the purser before closing the the aircraft doors.

This is when the flight crew would call clearance for pushback.

This is a classic Safety Management Systems case. I can only speculate why the staff seems to be in a rush. Wether they are trying to depart ahead of schedule or rushing a turnaround. Accidents always will happen. Safety protocols and procedures are in place for a reason. Similar incidents have happened in the past.

What are your thoughts?
