WASHINGTON D.C., USA -- US President Donald Trump has announced a travel ban to Europe.
Trump, who made this announcement in the Oval office has said "We are at a critical time in the fight against the virus," Trump said. "We made a life-saving move with early action on China. Now we must take the same action with Europe. We will not delay. I will never hesitate to take any necessary steps to protect the lives, health and safety of the American people. I will always put the well-being of America first."
The ban is only applicable to people not goods, the President added.
The ban covers most but not all of Europe. The travel ban includes Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Trump has also mentioned that the United Kingdom is not included in the travel ban which takes effect on Friday, March 13 2020.
This announcement has setback major airlines and has sent them scrambling. Further job cuts and money saving measures are expected to be in place to mitigate these developments brought about by the Corona Virus.
