HONG KONG - Cathay
Pacific has closed its cabin crew base in Vancouver as the airline continues to
struggle amidst the current Corona Virus saga. 147 jobs were lost as a direct
result of CX's YVR cabin crew base closure.
"We have
received an email sharing the sad news of our Vancouver base closing down" Quoting
a cabin crew based in an outstation who wishes to remain anonymous. This
move has raised fears and sent shock waves for further potential closures.
Cathay Pacific has cabin crew and pilot bases outside Hong Kong. They have
bases in London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Bangkok to name a few.
Cathay Pacific is going
through very tough times initially from the protests to now which has been
further aggravated by the outbreak of the Corona virus. It has already asked
its 27000 strong employees to voluntarily take unpaid leave.

Vancouver cabin crew base is however, the first line operating team to be made
redundant. In the past few years, the Hong Kong based airlines has been
outsourcing its ground operations in its out stations in an effort to reduce
costs.
