Cathay Pacific shuts YVR Cabin Crew base

HONG KONG - Cathay Pacific has closed its cabin crew base in Vancouver as the airline continues to struggle amidst the current Corona Virus saga. 147 jobs were lost as a direct result of CX's YVR cabin crew base closure.

"We have received an email sharing the sad news of our Vancouver base closing down" Quoting a cabin crew based in an outstation who wishes to remain anonymous.  This move has raised fears and sent shock waves for further potential closures. Cathay Pacific has cabin crew and pilot bases outside Hong Kong. They have bases in  London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Bangkok to name a few.

Cathay Pacific is going through very tough times initially from the protests to now which has been further aggravated by the outbreak of the Corona virus. It has already asked its 27000 strong employees to voluntarily take unpaid leave.

Cathay Pacific Vancouver cabin crew base is however, the first line operating team to be made redundant. In the past few years, the Hong Kong based airlines has been outsourcing its ground operations in its out stations in an effort to reduce costs.
